About me and my SEO experience

Dan Foland - SEO Expert

Hello, my name is Dan Foland. I’m a digital marketing expert for lawyers and law firms.

Additionally, I’ve been designated by Google as a Google Gold Product Expert for Google My Business (GMB), and as a Local Search Expert at the Local Search Forum.

I also volunteer on Google’s Webmaster Central Help Forum, where I help solve webmaster and SEO related issues.

I’ve always been deeply interested in the internet and how it works. At the age of 11, I taught myself HTML and started building my own webpages. While in college I started creating full websites, which led me to look for ways to get them seen by more people. Naturally, this sparked my interest in the world of SEO.

Right after graduating from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, I started my professional SEO career. I worked as an SEO specialist (and later Sr. SEO specialist) for Fathom, a digital marketing company based in Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio.

While at Fathom I was able to hone my SEO expertise while working with businesses in a variety of industries and sizes. I’ve done SEO work for companies ranging from small local businesses to Fortune 500 companies.

Industries I’ve done SEO work for:

  • Local Businesses (many types)
  • Legal (lawyers and law firms)
  • Healthcare (physicians, practices, healthcare systems etc.)
  • Education
  • Manufacturing
  • E-commerce
  • SAAS

  • Small Business (many types)

  • And many more

In my free time, I enjoy watching football, hanging out with my dog, and working out. As mentioned earlier I also spend my free time tweeting about SEO @DanFoland, volunteering on the GMB help forum, the Google Webmaster forum, and the Local Search Forum.

Additionally, in my free time, I also love digging deeper into any internet and SEO topics that pique my interest. A few of my favorite blogs and resources:

  • Backlinko – A great blog for long-form and in-depth SEO and link building tactics and information.
  • Google Webmaster Central Hangouts –  Live video office hours with the Head of Google Search John Mueller, and other Google employers. Getting insight into Google search from John Mueller himself is extremely valuable.
  • Sterling Sky – Great blog on all things about local SEO and Google My Business.
  • Marie Haynes Weekly newsletter – This weekly newsletter gives a great rundown of everything happening in the SEO industry.
  • Detailed – Similar to Backlinko, this blog has in-depth and long-form blog posts analyzing SEO strategy and tactics.
  • Bright Local – Bright Local’s blog is one of the go-to resources for local SEO information and strategy.
